About This Spot

Nestled inconspicuously on a quieter stretch of 30 Avenue NE, Helen’s Place surprises with a warmth and vibrancy that doesn’t quite match its industrial surroundings. The moment you step inside, the space opens up with plenty of natural light and a calm, unhurried rhythm that invites you to settle in and feel at home. It’s the kind of spot where familiar faces exchange waves and conversations hum gently alongside the clink of coffee cups and the occasional sizzle from the kitchen.

This is a corner of Calgary where comfort wears many hats, blending the nostalgia of classic breakfast favorites with subtle nods to Asian-inspired flavors. Whether you're drawn in by the promise of a perfectly balanced eggs Benedict or curious about the delicate, homemade dumplings, there’s an honest simplicity to each plate that speaks of care and quiet pride in the craft. The dishes arrive without fuss but carry with them a sense of thoughtful preparation—like a good friend cooking for you on a slow weekend morning.

The pace here is measured and easy, reflecting the team’s approach to hospitality. Friendly smiles from the staff make you feel seen without the pressure of hurried service. It’s a place where you can linger over a cup of freshly brewed coffee, watch the morning light shift across the room, or catch up on the day ahead with a moment of calm ritual. Even when the room is softly quiet, the atmosphere remains welcoming, never sterile—a gentle reminder that the heart of Helen’s Place is its human touch.

Helen’s draws in a mix of locals and travelers alike, many willing to step out of their usual routines just to find this little gem tucked away. The honest, homey flavors paired with fair prices and attentive care encourage a return visit—not just for the food but for the connection that quietly builds within its walls. It’s a restful pause in the midst of a busy city, where every meal feels like a quietly joyful discovery.

Helen’s is a gem. I would drive out for breakfast even though it is in an industrial area. We were at Krown auto and decided to mosey across the street. You can’t tell from the exterior but the inside is so bright and welcoming. The breakfast was deeeeelicious! Tasted like home cooked. I would like to come back and sample the Asian menu items too. The restaurant was almost empty, which is insane. I used to go to a place in Vancouver called Jimmy’s similar to this and it was packed to the rafters. I can only assume people just don’t know about Helen’s?

Chorizo hash bowl is a solid breakfast. Tasty sauce, good sausage (not greasy), good ratio of ingredients (not way too many potatoes like a lot of hash dishes), friendly service, and fair pricing.

The food here was INCREDIBLE. The service was very fast, the staff were extremely friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. If you have the chance to stop in here you definitely should!

Stopped in here this morning out of curiosity after driving by a few times. Just a little hole in the wall serving up delicious food at a reasonable price, with a lovely hostess. Kind, polite, and hospitable service. My friend and I will definitely be returning to try some more menu items. We had the Benny's, perfectly cooked with a sweeter, yet lovely ham on English muffin, served with seasoned potatoes, crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I just love places like this. I almost didn't want to give it a review because you sometimes want to keep places like this to yourself!

Whenever I see a place with a 4.9 review, I get suspicious. However, this place deserves the praise! The food is good, the price is right, and the proprietor, the eponymous Helen, is delightful. I had the spinach omelette, and my two guests had the breakfast sandwich and ‘classic breakfast’. Everything was made with care, the food wasn't greasy, and it all tasted great. When we were there, Helen and her husband Dennis struck up conversations with us and the other guests, genuinely interested in us. A local guy came in halfway through our meal and resumed what I can assume is an ongoing discussion with them about this-and-that. I was very charmed. If you’re ever in the area, I would definitely recommend going for breakfast or lunch. Next time I come I want to try the ginger pork!

It's pretty rare to good quality food served at a reasonable price in industrial areas. Usually they're overpriced for blue collar workers. Sometimes it can get a little busy because there's only two employees. The Linda Lou is fantastic. Great combination of flavours and the bread is toasted perfectly. The beef and barley despite being made with ground beef has a ton of flavour. I enjoyed the omelette as well. Perfect textured and the potatoes are seasoned well. Try their homemade chili oil as well! For some reason their water or cups taste weird. The cleaner they use is not washed off well.

Awesome little hole in the wall restaurant. Came because of the reviews and it did NOT disappoint. I got the Hawaiian locomoco which is out of the realm of what I'd usually order, and it was fantastic. My wife got the sweet and sour pork Chinese combo and she really enjoyed it as well! Service was great and food came out quick. Highly recommended
